German Holidays (Grade 9 - 12) ThinkQuest Project by Russell Sample and Leif Wulf. Find a table of contents for holidays in the United States and Germany.

German Unification Case Study- (Grade 9 - 12) Falk Cammin, Los Altos Hills, CA. Very similar to a Webquest, this project involves  exploration of the issues of German reunification by taking on the role of involved citizens, and discussion of problems and solutions.

Immigrants from Germany (Grade 9 - 12) John Faller German immigrants have contributed much to the history of the United States. By following the activities in this Webquest you will learn much about these important contributions to our nation's history, as well as contributions to specific areas of the country.

Schwarz wald und Amazonas Regenwald: A Comparison  (Grade 5 - 8) Compare the Amazon (South America) to the Black Forest (Austria). Developed as a part of a Grade 4 - 12 Foreign Language program in Elmbrook School District in Wisconsin. 

Italian

Italy  (Grade 4 - 5) by Amy Cole, Cheri Dixon, Mary Copland, Dianne Khan, and Vicki LoCoco.   Students learn to count to 10 in Italian, recite the days of the week, compare and contrast Italian customs and traditions with those of the United States, research fine Italian restaurants, and describe Italy's geography.

Global History  (Grade 9 - 12) by Henrietta Mountz, Barbara Searle, and Barbara Amos, John Jay High School.  Students take a trip in a time machine back to the Renaissance and are reporters,  each interviewing a different prominent person of that age.

Journey Back in Time to Ancient Rome!  (Grade 6 - 8) by Carolyn Burdett, Carol Maier, and Alaina White, University of Richmond.  Students explore Ancient Rome and learn about their daily life, myths, and government.

Renaissance of an Italian Artist  (Grade 6 - 8) by Patricia A. Fry.  Students research the lives of 5 Renaissance painters and the inventions of Leonardo da Vinci.

Japanese

Tour Japan (Grade 7 - 9) Susan Moxley, San Diego Unified School District. Students plan a complete Japanese tour (brochure, travel diary, oral presentation and poster) in this comprehensive unit.

An Afternoon in Japan WebQuest by Shelly Johnson, Cara Lind, Jason Lind and Mark Planchak.  The students will gain a basic understanding about Japanese Cuisine, Arts, and Culture. Students can also take a virtual trip to Japan.

ATTACK ON HIROSHIMA (Grade 7) Modified by Mrs. Tuggle Alton C. Crews Middle School.  Students write for a special edition magazine and their assignment is to capture and relay the perspectives of the people during the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima, Japan. 

Becoming Japanese WebQuest (Grade 6 - 8) by Laura LuchauThrough "Becoming Japanese," students learn more about Japanese culture, language and history by assuming the roles of artist, warrior, scholar, or athlete in Japanese society.

The Culture of Japan WebQuest (Grade 3) by Barbara Baldner Hillsdale Schools. Students  research and explore the Japanese culture by finding information about food, arts and crafts, music, and folk legends and literature. 

Discover Japan In this Webquest, students learn about the geography, culture, and language of Japan. 

Discover Japan WebQuest (Grade 6 - 9) How many things in your house relate to Japan? This Webquest will explore Japan and discuss how similar and how different they are with the student culture.

Japan Project (Grade 3) by Bardonia Elementary School. Contains essays and a Webquest on learning about Japan.

Japan Quest  (Primary) by David St.Germain, Bugbee Elementary School. Students organize a class trip to Japan and create a travel brochure.

JapanQuest (Grade 9-12) Lisa Lucero, Kirtland Central High School. Students create a "Japanese" web page to be presented to the class.

Japan for Rinko (Grade 6) Rosa Sterk and Tanya Gibbs. Based on the book "A Jar of Dreams" by Yuchiko Uchido, this Webquest focuses on the geography of Japan.

Japan Tea Ceremony WebQuest (Grade 9 - 12) by RETA for Linda Bennett, Des Moines High School.  Students prepare for a trip to Japan as a foreign exchange student and familiarize themselves with the Japanese Tea Ceremony.

Japanese Arts Festival  (Grade 9 - 12) Dana Anne Kirby Students will create an arts festival which involves learning the crafts and customs of Japan.

Japanese Diet WebQuest  This Webquest explores the diet of the Japanese.  Students learn the characteristics of Japanese diet, investigate its health benefit based on dietary guidelines, and present findings.

Japanese Food WebQuest by Horace Mann.  Worksheet on staples of the Japanese diet.

Japanese Language WebQuest Worksheet on the language of Japan.

Japanese New Year  (Grade 6 - 8) by Iku and Hitoshi, University of Technology, Sydney.  In Japan, the New Year's celebration is one of most important and biggest events.  Students learn about Japanese culture and the origin for the celebration.

Japanese Temples WebQuest by Mark Hicks, Fontbonne College.  Students are hired by a local shopping mall to create authentic looking Japanese drawings, paintings, and sculptures based on temples and shrines around the world.

A Japanese Travel Guide How do you prepare for the trip of your life? (Grade 3) by Sara Thibault.  Students develop a Japanese Travel Guide to prepare for a trip to Japan as an exchange student.

Japanese Vacation WebQuest (Grades 4 - 7)  Students research three cities in Japan to decide in which city they would like to spend a two week vacation.

Journey to Japan (Grade 3)  Jeanne Paulus, Wauwatosa School District. WebQuest comparing Japan and Milwaukee.

Journey to Japan WebQuest (Grade K - 2) by Lorena Forbes. Students read information about children in Japan and compare their life with those of children in Japan.

Journey to Japan WebQuest (Grade 2) by Janice Dorris, Ball Ground Elementary.  Students read books that explore the culture of Japan , draw a Japanese flag, compare the foods of Japan and the USA, and answer questions about Japan and its' people.

Kon-nichi-wa Japan WebQuest   (Grade 1) by Deb Lemieux, Marion E. Zeh Elementary School. Students are asked to keep a journal while visiting Japan.  The journal includes information on Japanese schools, clothing, food, and transportation.

Konnichiwa, Welcome to My World WebQuest (Grade 1)  by Jamie Boston, Birch Lane & Pioneer Elementary Schools.  Students create a book to show a visiting Japanese student the similarities and differences between the way the Americans and Japanese live.

Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes WebQuest (Grade 3 - 5) by Pat Duhon.  Students research facts about Japan, compare life in the US and Japan, create a timeline of events related to Sadako Sasaki, learn when and where the atomic bombs were dropped, and learn about the art of origami.

Travel Japan WebQuest (Grade 6) Students are potential employees of a travel company.  They create a travel brochure about Japan with a proposed 5-7 day itinerary for the trip.  They are to include pictures, a map and an ad for the travel company.

Travel to Japan WebQuest by Anne McLellan.  Students research and plan the types of transport to be used in getting to Japan from Australia, and have a background knowledge of what to expect when they get to Japan. Students will answer the following questions: "Have I chosen the best type of transport for my journey?" and "How does life in Japan differ from life in Australia?"

WebQuest on The Samurai's Tale (Grade 7) by Erik Haugaard (created by Mr. Dan Fickett Bonita Vista Middle School).  Students read "The Samurai's Tale" and report historical, cultural and thematic discoveries and interpret their meanings with respect to characters and events in the novel. 

Welcome to Japan WebQuest  (Grade Kindergarten) by Melisa Sellers.  Students create a Japanese meal, draw a picture about Japan, and write a sentence telling about the meal and picture.

What's Going on in Japan Today?  (Grade 9 - 12) by Nicole Restrick.  This Web Quest is designed to introduce Japan's role in the international community through the study of current events.

You are moving to Japan!! (Grade 6) by David Brockhurst Students research three cities in Japan, (Sapporo, Nagoya, and Fukuoka), to decide which of the three cities would be best for the family. 

Spanish

¡Buen Provecho! (Grade 10) by David Jamieson. This WebQuest for Spanish II focuses on cuisines of different Spanish-speaking countries

Casa de Cristina by Bruce K. Barrs.  As the consultants to a new chain of Spanish restaurants, students decide what dishes to offer and find the recipes so the chefs are able to prepare the meals. Through this journey, students discover the savory world of Hispanic foods, desserts and drinks and will better understand this part of Hispanic culture.

Day of the Dead WebQuest (Grade 6 - 8 ) by Melanie Stella at Welborn Middle School. This WebQuest explores the Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead, and the aspects that surround this celebration.

El Bosque Tropical (Grade 10 - 12) Students debate the issue of developing the tropical forests of Latin America.

El Camino Real: Back to the Future (Grade 6 - 8) by Cissy Lujan-Pincomb, Tina Kidwell, Lee Ann Vaughn and Kelly Embrey, New Mexico State UniversityIn 1598, Don Juan de Oñate explored the territiory of what is now Mexico, Texas, and New Mexico. Students document how much El Camino Real has changed in 400 years.

Evita Perón:  Mistress to Madonna  (Grade 11 - 12) by Dawn A. Santiago-Murillo, Victor High School.  In this WebQuest for AP Spanish, students must prepare a report which persuades the "International Association of Women" to induct Evita Peron into their new Hall of Fame.

In Quest of Our Roots (Grade 6 - 8) by Ron McCracken, Hermogena Slag, Laura E. Sujo de Montes and Joyce Wade, New Mexico State University.  Students are a select group of historians searching historical records and information about New Mexico and present a report to the United States Department of Interior.

Mexican Muralists (Grade 11 - 12) by Linda NeilanIn this WebQuest for Spanish III, students learn about Mexican murals by reading biographies of the artists, studying their works, and becoming a master art historian and critic.

Mexico City Earthquake (Grade 9 - 12) by Edith J. Kelly, Capuchino High School and Ryen M. Partin, San Francisco State University.  Students gather information about earthquakes in general (how they work, safety issues/emergency preparedness, history, etc...) and the Mexico City Earthquake. Working together the students will design a multi-platform presentation to convey their learned knowledge about this terrible natural disaster.

Mexican Webquest  (Grade 11 - 12) by Kim Whittaker and Carol Siwinski, Germantown Academy.   In this WebQuest for Spanish III, students make a classroom presentation of their research on Mexico's culture, history, or geography.

Mural Venture:  Nicaraguan Mural Art (Grade 9 - 12) from Stanford University.  Students learn about Nicaraguan culture and politics through the stories told by Nicaraguan murals.

The Mystery of Ancient Mesoamerican Civilizations (Grades 5 - 6) by Roberta Reagan, Indiana University.  Students are adventurers and an archaeologists in search of ancient civilizations to discover the meaning of the mysterious pictures found on the various ancient man-made structures buried within the jungle. 

Nicaragua Quest (Grade 9 -12) from Stanford University.  Students learn information about Nicaraguan culture and question the nature of international relations in our more interdependent world.

Pinochet and Human Rights: Reevaluating Policy  by Todd Slater, Ohio University.  The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has summoned a group of experts to testify about the effects of U.S. policy on Chile during the Allende and Pinochet governments. In particular, he wants to focus on the question: How can the U.S. maintain a strong commitment to human rights and at the same time protect its national interests?

Problems understanding Hispanic literature?  (Grade 10 - 12) by Juan Manuel Mora, Serra Senior High.  In this WebQuest for AP Spanish, the "Latino Craze" has inspired Hollywood to film locally and are continually looking for new faces and ideas for movies and soap operas. To be considered, you must demonstrate your understanding with your acting skills, of  the emotions attached to the concepts of honor, humor, loyalty, passion and tradition of the Hispanic/Latino world. 

A Quest to Save Machu Picchu  (Grade 9 - 12) by Lara Fitzgerald, Glendale Union High School.  Students research Incan Civilization, Machu Picchu in particular, using the Internet.

Teen Travel Experts (Grade 6 - 12) by Tracy L. Brunelle and Elizabeth Walsh, Swainston Middle School. Students choose one of the six Spanish-speaking countries, assume a role, and make comparisons of countries and recommendations for foreign travel from their roles' point of view.

Traders (Represent Your Country at the Next International Trade Days)  by CultureQuest.  Students research the trade status of their chosen country including exports, imports, type of currency, relative value of currency, and primary trading partners.

Travel Brochure WebQuest  (Grade 9) by Bernadette Fernandez, Des Moines School.  Students choose one Hispanic city and create a travel brochure, including hotels, restaurants, a city map, and interesting places to see or things to do.

The Two Mountains: An Aztec Legend (Grade 9) by Patrick GarciaAs a tribute to the Aztecs, a performance troop has formed and students audition for the troop.  Students read an Aztec legend titled "The Two Mountains" and then create several tableau's to to bring the legend to life.

Un Día en Madrid  (Grade 6 - 8) by Phyllis Salsedo. What if one day you went to Madrid? This WebQuest project answers that question! You'll plan an itinerary for one full day in Madrid using the Web and other sources. 

¡Vamos a España!  (Grade 9) by Pam Middlebrooks.  Students research hotels, attractions, and restaurants in the cities of Madrid, Sevilla, and Barcelona to aid the Spanish Club's decisions in planning a two week trip to Spain this summer

Vamos a viajar  (Grade 9 - 12) by Peggy L. Urton, Glendale Union High School District.  As the officers of the Spanish club, students choose a country to visit.  They also choose an itinerary that will let them explore the best cultural, historical, shopping and entertainment opportunities the country has to offer, and create a travel brochure.

Welcome to Aztec Adventure!  (Grade 9 - 12) by Deborah Dolley, Sandra Dionne and Sarah Dubay, University of Maine.  Students create a Special Report to the Mexican people describing how the items in four mysterious packages are linked to the Aztecs and what influences of the Aztecs can be seen in today's Mexican civilization.

What is a Good Country? (Grade 6 - 8) from San Diego State University. Students research Spanish speaking countries around the world and persuade their parents to move to one of these countries for the next two years based on their findings.

 Other Languages

Russian: Letters from Rifka (Grade 6 - 8) by Constance Egter, Arizona State University West.  After reading page 31, students will search resources for a photograph of a Russian Cossack as described in the novel. 

Latin: Ubi Est Mantua? (Grade 11 - 12) by Svetlana Lazarova.  In this activity for Latin III-IV, students visit a Website, which will take them, in Latin, on a tour of an Italian city.

Latin: Geography of the Aeneid of Vergil (Grade 9 - 12) by Edward Krug. This activity, for Latin III-IV, focuses on the geographical locations connected to The Aeneid.

Latin: Slavery in Ancient Rome (Grade 6 - 8) by Patricia B. Underwood. Students have been a household slave in the city of Rome for six months and write a letter to a friend describing what has happened to them, beginning with the auction block until their present position in the household.
