You can now add cool colors, fonts and other formatting features to your SchoolNotes page using
the SchoolNotes Text Tool. Here are some frequently asked questions about the tool:

General Font

Introduction
SchoolNotes includes a text editing and formatting tool to give users more options when they create their web pages. It functions just like a word processing tool, allowing users to change font and background colors, even add images! Users can create formatted content without having to know any HTML code. Advanced users can switch back and forth between the graphical mode and the code view.

What do I need to use the Text Tool?
You will need a PC computer with Internet Explorer 5.5 or better. If you need to download Internet Explorer 6, click here. The next version of the Text Tool will work with Netscape 7.x on a Mac or PC.

Why can’t I see the editor in my browser?
This editor currently requires Internet Explorer 5.5 or better. As soon as a new release is available, we will publish it to the site allowing for a greater audience. In the meantime, download Internet Explorer 5.5, the new functionality is well worth it!

How can I change the font of my text?
At the top left-hand side of your editor, you will see a list of different fonts. You can either select the font before you type the text or highlight the text and then choose the font.

How can I change the font size of my text?
Right next to the font list is a list of font sizes. You can either select the font size before you type the text, or you may highlight the text and then choose the font size.

How do I boldface my text?
In the toolbar at the top of the editor, there is a button. You can click the button before you type your text or highlight the text.

How do I italicize my text?
In the toolbar at the top of the editor, there is a button. You can click the button before you type your text or highlight the text and then click the button.

How do I underline my text?
In the toolbar at the top of the editor, there is a button. You can click the button before you type your text or highlight the text and then click the button.

How do I left-align my text?
In the toolbar at the top of the editor, there is a button. You can click the button before you type your text or highlight the text and then click the button.

How do I center my text?
In the toolbar at the top of the editor, there is a button. You can click the button before you type your text or highlight the text and then click the button.

How do I right-align my text?
In the toolbar at the top of the editor, there is a button. You can click the button before you type your text or highlight the text and then click the button.

How do I add bullets to my text?
There are two formats you can choose, bullets or numbers. Choose one of the two buttons from the toolbar at the top of the menu. You can click the button before you type or text your highlight the text and then click the button.

How do I add tabs to my text?
In the toolbar at the top of the editor, there are two buttons., one to shift the text to the left and the other to shift it right. You can click the button before you type your text or highlight the text and then click the button.

How do I change the color of my text?
In the toolbar at the top of the editor underneath the font list, there is a button. Once you click the button, a pop-up box with a list of colors will appear; choose your text color. You can change the text color before you type your text or highlight the text and then click the button.

How do I change the background color of my text?
In the toolbar at the top of the editor, there is a button. Once you click the button, a pop-up box with a list of colors will appear; choose your background color. You can change the backgroundt color before you type your text or highlight the text and then click the button. This will only change the highlighted area.

What is a horizontal rule?
A horizontal rule is a way of adding a divider into your web page. It appears like a straight horizontal line.

How do I insert a horizontal rule?
Place the cursor in the text box where you want the rule to go. Press the button and a horizontal rule will be inserted.

How do I insert an Internet hyperlink?
There are two different looks you can choose for your hyperlink. If you want the link to show up as the Internet address i.e., http://www.edgate.com/ in the text box, then simply place your cursor in the appropriate spot in the text box and click the button. If you would prefer your link to appear with the address hidden i.e., EdGate , then first type your text into the box and highlight it. Next click the button. For either of the formats you have chosen, once you click the link button, a pop-up window will appear asking what type of link you want to include as well as the URL. Choose http: as the type and in the URL field, simply type your web address after the http://.

Can I insert a hyperlink to an image?
In order to insert a link into an image, select the image you want linked and click the button. A pop-up window will appear asking what type of link you want to include as well as the URL. Choose http: as the type and in the URL field, simply type your web address after the http://.

How do I insert an image?
Place your cursor in the appropriate spot in the text box. Press the button. You need to then enter the URL of the image. You cannot currently upload an image from you hard drive unless the image can be accessed from the Internet. In the Alternate Text field you should put a description of the image. You can also choose the alignment of your image by making a choice from the Alignment drop-down box.

What is a URL?
A URL is an acronym for Uniform Resource Locator and is the address of a file or resource on the Internet.

What is a hyperlink?
A hyperlink is a connection from text or an image to another.

How can I insert a table?
Place your cursor in the appropriate place in the text box and click the button. You can specify the number of rows and columns as well as the alignment. If you would like a border, pick a value from the Border Thickness list; the higher the value, the thicker the border. Cell Spacing and Padding dictate how much space is between cells.

How can I insert sound to my page?
The text tool currently does not have a button to add sound to your webpage, however, it can still be accomplished. Click on the toggle button to switch from design view to code view. Cut and paste the your embed music code into the code view. Then, click the toggle button again to switch back to design view.

How can I view the HTML code?
It is easy to toggle back and forth from the HTML code view and the graphical view. Simply press the button.

How can I enlarge the text area?
By clicking the button, a separate editor window will open up allowing you to stretch to full screen width.
