What are "My Resources"?
My Resources are links to Internet sites that have been indexed and
categorized to make them easy to find and have been chosen by our
team of teachers for their usefulness. The idea behind EdGate’s
resource philosophy is to number one save time for teachers. The
resources listed are not an exhaustive list of all resources on a
topic, but rather a selected few of the best and most useful sites
on a topic. |
I was used to using The Guide
at the old Edgate.com site, how does My Resources compare?
Many of the same resources available under The Guide channel
contents are available in Personal Edition’s My Resources, they are
simply organized slightly differently additional indexing making it
easier and faster to access these great tools! |

How do I search?
To use the search feature you simply type in the keyword(s) you are
searching for, such as solar system. If you see duplicates it is
because a resource is located in more than one place within the My
Resources system. The search function only searches the titles and
descriptions in the My Resources Index. It will not search outside
pages such as the World Language Channel. |
What is a breadcrumb trail?
On a Web site, a breadcrumb trail is a navigation tool that allows a
user to see where the current page is in relation to the Web site's
hierarchy. The term breadcrumb trail comes from the story of Hansel
and Gretel, who left a trail of breadcrumbs as they walked through
the forest so they could trace their way back home. |
I don't see the resource I
need, how can I add new resources?
In the present version you cannot add or rate resources. This
enhancement is planned for future versions. If you have a suggested
site or have comments regarding an existing site please contact
EdGatePE_Content_Mgr@edgate.com. |
I teach with themes, how do I
get more theme-based information?
Currently, Personal Edition does not support themes, as we enhance
the product, over time, themes will be added. For now, use the
Themes in the
Monthly Calendar of Resources available from the
MyEdGate page. |
|
What are "Grade Spans" and how
are they used?
Resources are assigned to groupings by grade spans rather than a
particular grade. The grade spans include Pre-K - 2, 3 - 5, 6 - 8,
and 9 - 12. If a resource is listed with the word NONE in the grade
span, the site is considered to be a general site of use to all
educators or parents, but not to students.

What is the "Content" tag on
a resource and how is it used?
Resources will have one or more of the following tags listed after
the word Content: Pop-ups, Media, Hot Picks, PDF or N/A. Pop-ups
mean that the recommended resource has pop-up advertising. The Media
tag tells users that the selected site has multimedia available that
may require a plug-in such as RealAudio or Shockwave. Hot Picks are
sites that have been chosen heads above others by our staff of
teachers for their content and presentation. The PDF tag tells users
that the site uses Adobe Acrobat files and will require to have
Acrobat or Acrobat Reader installed on their machine to see the
files. N/A indicates that none of the above mentioned tags apply.

How can I save or bookmark my
favorite resources?
Although you cannot currently bookmark within Personal Edition, once
a resource is opened in a new window, you can add that site to your
browser's favorites. |
How can I save a site into my
browser's favorites?
Since there are so many browsers on the market, we will give
instructions on the most popular two: Internet Explorer and
Netscape. For Internet Explorer, click your mouse on the "Favorites"
option in the toolbar and select the first choice, "Add to
Favorites". For Netscape, click your mouse on the "Bookmarks" option
in the menu and select your first choice, "Bookmark this Page". |
I have pop-up windows left
open after using My Resources, did they come from EdGate?
EdGate does not create
advertisements with pop-ups. However, some of the
resource sites that we have chosen to link to may use this form of
advertising. Usually we avoid using sites with pop-ups, but
sometimes they are extraordinary sites that or worth visiting
despite the inconveniences. If browser windows containing
advertising are left on your screen then you have visited one of
these sites. They did not originate from EdGate. |
Is there a way to view all of
the content within a certain category?
From the "My Resources" page look under a resource, the very last
link within that resource directory says "More Categories". Click on
this link to be taken to a page listing all of the content under
each category. |
