West Virginia Curriculum Matrix Summary

 

State Test  High, Medium, Low Designations

 

The information used to prioritize test items was taken from the WESTEST Operational Tests blueprints found on the West Virginia State Education Department’s website.

 

Under the West Virginia Testing system, students are tested in Reading and Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science in Grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10.  The priority of the item was determined by the possible percent of the test for each standard—the higher the percent of the test, the higher the priority given.  If a standard was not tested, it was ranked low. 

Reading and Language Arts – All Grade Levels

 

If the WESTEST Operational Test Blueprint identified the standard at a possible 41%or higher a High designation was given.  If the Blueprint identified the standard from a possible 0 – 40% a Medium designation was given.  If a standard was not tested, it was ranked Low. 

Mathematices – All Grade Levels

 

If the WESTEST Operational Test Blueprint identified the standard at a possible 21%or higher a High designation was given.  If the Blueprint identified the standard from a possible 0 – 20% a Medium designation was given.  If a standard was not tested, it was ranked Low. 

Science – All Grade Levels

 

If the WESTEST Operational Test Blueprint identified the standard at a possible 9%or higher a High designation was given.  If the Blueprint identified the standard from a possible 0 – 8% a Medium designation was given.  If a standard was not tested, it was ranked Low.
