Curriculum Matrix Standards New Jersey Standards are organized as follows:
Language Arts: K,1,2,3,4,5-6,7-8,9-12
Mathematics: 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9-12
Science: 2,4,6,8,12
Social Studies: 4,8,12

New Jersey standards have 2 levels. Level 1:  Standard ; Level 2:  Strand ;  Level 3: Progress Indicator

  New Jersey Curriculum Matrix Summary- ESPA, GEPA, HSPA High, Medium, Low Designations

English Language Arts

A High designation was given to those Cumulative Progress Indicators determined a priority, and a Medium designation was given to secondary assessment priority by the State Development Team.

 

In all grades, Listening, Viewing, and Speaking  Cumulative Progress Indicators were given a Low designation.  These are not tested statewide.

Mathematics

Grade 4:   Approximately 36% of the test items assess skills from the first cluster.  The cluster and macros were crosswalked to the content standards.  These content standards were given a High designation.  The remaining clusters have approximately 16% each of the remaining test items.  These were also crosswalked to content standards and were given a Medium designation.

 

Grade 8:  All clusters have approximately 25% of test items.  The clusters and macros were crosswalked to the content standards.  These content standards were all given a High designation.

 

Grade 11:   Approximately 25% of the test items assess skills from Cluster II.  Approximately 30% of the test items assess skills from each of Clusters III and IV.  These three clusters were crosswalked to the content standards.  They were given a High designation. Approximately 15% of the test items assess skills from Cluster I.  This cluster was crosswalked to the content standards.  They were given a Medium designation.

Science

Grade 4:  When viewing the “Elementary School Proficiency Assessment Science Matrix,” if the percent of assessment items was 14% or more, a High designation was given.  If the percent of assessment items was 1 to 13%, a Medium designation was given.  The knowledge and skills statements represented in the matrix were crosswalked to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.

 

Grade 8:  When viewing the “GEPA Matrix,” if the percent of assessment items was 11% or more, a High designation was given.  If the percent of assessment items was 1 to 10%, a Medium designation was given. The knowledge and skills statements represented in the matrix were crosswalked to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.

 

High School:  When viewing the “HSPA Matrix,” if the percent of assessment items was 12% or more, a High designation was given.  If the percent of assessment items was 1 to 11%, a Medium designation was given. The knowledge and skills statements represented in the matrix were crosswalked to the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.
