English Language Arts—Information
in determining priorities was obtained from the Minnesota Comprehensive
Assessments, Test Specifications for each grade level and the Basic Skills
Test Specifications.
MCA:
Grade 3—Reading: The
standards comprising 50% or higher were rated high; items containing 10-20%
of the standards were rated medium. If the standard was not tested, it was
rated low.
Grade 5—Reading: The
standards comprising 30% or higher were rated high; items containing 10-20%
of the standards were rated medium. If the standards were not tested, it
was rated low.
Grade 10—Reading: Reading,
Listening and Viewing Complex Information (Items for this standard comprise
80-85% of the test.) Objectives consisting of 20% and higher of the
standards were rated high; items consisting of 10-20% of the standards were
rated medium. Technical Reading, Listening and Viewing (Items for this
standards consist of 15-20% of the test.) Objectives consisting of 65-75%
of the standard were rated high; items consisting of 10-25% of the standards
were rated medium.
Grade 5—Writing: All
standards rated high.
Grade 10—Writing: See Basic
Skills Test in Writing, Grade 10.
BST:
Grade 8—Reading: 60% of the
questions test for literal comprehension; literal comprehension was rated
high.
30%of the questions test for
inferential comprehension; thus, inferential was rated medium. The
remaining 10% test for either as appropriate to the passage.
Grade 10—Writing: The Basic
Skills Test in Writing fulfills two purposes: The Basic Skills Test
requirement for a high school graduation test and the high school MCA
requirement. The Test of Written Composition is based on the academic
portion of the high school standard: Learning Area Two: Write and Speak.
All areas under this were rated high. Technical Writing, Public Speaking
and Interpersonal Communication are not tested and thus, rated low.
