What are the adopted standards for California?  The California State Board of Education has adopted core academic content standards in five curriculum areas for Kindergarten through grade 12: English-Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Visual and Performing Arts and Science. The core content standards are the basis for the subject matter frameworks, the adoption of K-8 instructional materials, and the standards-aligned tests in California's student performance assessment system.

What are the State Testing Requirements for California? 
State Assessments: STAR (Standardized Testing and Reporting Program) has 3 components:
1. Stanford Achievement Tests (Stanford 9) Required of grades 2 - 11in Language Arts and 
     in Science; 9-12 in Science 
2. STAR Augmented Tests in English / Language Arts and Math
     Grades 2 - 7 and 11 are required to take the STAR Augmented in Math for their grade level and Grades 8-10 are required to take the math test which corresponds to the math course completed during the current school year.
3. Spanish Assessment of Basic Education (SABE/2) Spanish-speaking limited English students grades 2 - 11 are also required to take SABE/2

ICLE Assessment Data Used for Matrix

The testing blueprints used in determining testing priorities consists of those selected questions from SAT 9 and the augments test questions that relate to the state standards. The criteria used for Determining the testing priorities was as follows: English—5+ items = High; 1 item = Medium; 0 Item = Low. Math—2+ items = High; 1 item = Medium; 0 item = Low.

STAR High, Medium, Low Designations 

Reading and Writing

A High, Medium, or Low designation was given (grades 4, 7, 9-10, 11-12) if the standard aligned to the SAT 9/Augmentation:

 5 or more items = High, 1 to 4 items = Medium, 0 = Low

Mathematics

 A  High, Medium, or Low designation was given (grades 3, 5, 7, and Algebra I) if the standard aligned to the SAT 9/Augmentation:

 2 or more items = High, 1 item = Medium, 0 = Low

Science

 A High, Medium, or Low designation was given in (Earth Science and Biology) if the standard aligned to the STAR:

 6 or more items = High, 1 to 5 items = Medium, 0 = Low
