Arizona Curriculum Matrix Summary

AIMS High, Medium, Low Designations
English Language Arts

The High, Medium, or Low designation was determined by adding the number of multiple-choice items, the number of short answers items (multiplied by 2), and the number of extended writing items (multiplied by 3) aligned to each standards/benchmark.

If the overall number was 5 or more, a High designation was given.  If the number was 1 to 4, a Medium designation was given.  A Low was given if the benchmark was not assessed.

 Mathematics

      Grades 3, 5, 8

The High, Medium, or Low designation was determined by adding the number of mulitple-choice items and the number of short answers items (multiplied by 2) aligned to each standards/benchmark.

If the overall number was 4 or more, a High designation was given.  If the number was 1 to 3, a Medium designation was given.  A Low was given if the benchmark was not assessed.

      High School

The High, Medium, or Low designation was determined by viewing the Mathematics Task Force’s identification of the Core concepts and performance objectives for which all students will be held accountable on AIMS at the high school level.

“C”  =  Core Performance Objectives that will be on AIMS = High

“T”  =  Core Performance Objectives that must be taught but won’t be on AIMS = Low

“L”  =  Core Performance Objectives that will be introduced, taught later, not on AIMS = Low

“U” =  Core Performance Objectives that have been determined unessential, not on AIMS = Low
