Education PodCasts

Podcasting makes an audio file, typically an MP3 file, available online for downloading via an automatic "feed." You can then hear the podcast whenever you want from your computer or a portable media player. The best description is an “audio BLOG.”

Podcasting is based on RSS technology. RSS is a standard for publishing regular updates to web-based content. Using this standard, Web publishers provide updates, such as the latest news headlines or weblog postings.

To sample content prior to subscribing many sites allow you to download individual broadcast files to listen to without subscribing. To become a subscriber you need podcast subscription software. Your options include the latest version of Apple's iTunes (which has the software built in), or other services such as Odeo or iPodder, to manage your podcast subscriptions. More programs are available from Download.com.
